Top 5 summer festivals in Amsterdam

The weatherman told us that this summer is going to be sunny here in Holland. So now is a good time to start selecting your shorts and slippers because with this weather, outside, is where you want to be. With increasingly good weather comes the need for some fun outdoor activities during your short stay in Amsterdam. This summer the outdoor scene is packed with some of the best festivals. Ranging from large scale dance events to culinary events for the foodies. The Dutch are always in for a party, so why not join? How about we’ll give you the five must-see festivals here in Amsterdam this summer, during your short stay in Amsterdam this summer?

1. A day at the Park Much like the name suggest A day at the Park is hosted in a park. Actually a forest, the Amsterdam Forest. On the 21st of July 2012 you will find a massive party going on in the Amsterdam forest just a short ride away from both Htel Serviced Apartments locations. A Day at the Park will then be celebrating their fifth year anniversary. Starting in 2007 as a small dance festival, today it is full on dance event attracting over 15.000 visitors each year. This year you can move your feet to the sounds of Richie Rawtin, Groove Armada, Green Velvet and many more.

2. Uitmarkt If you are a bit more into cultural festivals then we hope you are still here in the last week of August. Because the 24th, 25th and 26th of August the Uitmarkt will take place in Amsterdam. The Uitmarkt is the kick-off for the Dutch cultural season boasting theatre acts, film, dance, literature, cabaret, new media and more. The festivals 42 stages and 2000 artist attract over 500.000 visitors each year. It takes place in and around the heart of Amsterdam on the Leidseplein (Leidsesquare) and the Museumplein (Musuem square) both easily accessible from Htel Serviced apartments, by tram, bus and even bicycle.

3. Amsterdam Roots Festival The Amsterdam Roots Festival started 15 years ago as the Africa Roots Festival and attracted some of the biggest African artist to their stages.This day in age the festival is a stage for world music, attracting major artist from all over the world. The festival host more then 60 concerts and attracts over 60.000 visitors each year, giving it the status of Holland’s largest world music festival. This is one of those occasions where a pair of sneaker will suffice because we can guarantee that you won’t stand still, this year the festival will have Portuguese Fado by Ana Moura, Oriental Jazz & World by Lebanese trumpeter Ibrahim Maalouf, Hip-Hop by Chiddy Bang and many more artist. The Amsterdam Roots Festival will take place from the 5th of July till the 8th of July.

4. Taste of Amsterdam What is a greater way to stimulate your taste buds then to have a festival entirely dedicated to food. A short walk from Htel Serviced Apartments Amsterdam you have the Amstelpark. On the 31st of May 2012 till the 03rd of June 2012 the park will be the place for all food lovers, cause it is ground for the Taste of Amsterdam Festival. Twelve of Amsterdam best Restaurants will serve the most delicious dishes in a fairy tale like setting. Of course no food festival is completed without the right wines, so don’t forget to visit winecourses. Furthermore the festival also has food tastings, food workshops and all kinds off specialties. 5. Zomerfestival 2012 Now there is one festival you might not want to miss if you want to taste and experience the lifestyle and food of some of Amsterdam’s largest ethnical groups. Formerly known as the Kwakoe festival, Zomerfestival 2012 boasts Indian, Surinamese, African and Antillian culture and we can guarantee that you will find the best and most authentic food. It’s a day of celebration where people from all cultures come together, even from well outside of Amsterdam. It started off as a soccer tournament in 1975 and since then grew to become one of the largest cultural festivals in Holland.

The list goes on and on, so you should block your summer agenda.
